Rectifier diode is a semiconductor device with nonlinear electrical characteristics, which converts AC signals into DC electrical signals. It achieves this function by allowing current to flow in one direction while preventing it from flowing in another direction.

Specifically, when a forward voltage is applied to the positive electrode of the rectifier diode, electrons can smoothly pass through the diode, allowing current to flow and reach a conductive state. In this case, the voltage drop of the rectifier diode is very small and almost negligible.

When the reverse voltage is applied to the positive pole of the rectifier diode, electrons cannot pass through the diode, forming a current cutoff state. At this point, the voltage drop of the rectifier diode becomes significant, preventing the flow of current.

Through this forward conductive and reverse truncation characteristic, the rectifier diode can cut off the negative half cycle part of the AC signal and only retain the positive half cycle part, thus achieving the conversion from AC to DC. This process is called rectification.

Rectifier diodes are widely used in electronic devices, such as in power circuits to convert alternating current into direct current to supply the DC power required for electronic components and circuit operation. It can also be used in signal detection, laser diode drive circuits, wireless communication and other fields.
